Scrip FAQ's What Is Scrip? Scrip is a term that means substitute money. When you purchase scrip,
you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used
just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday items like food,
clothing, gas and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue
for our organization. How does scrip generate revenue for Immaculate
Conception School? The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of Immaculate Conception
School to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department
stores, and other retailers - because the scrip is purchased with cash up front,
the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our local grocery
stores, department stores, and other retailers give great discounts as well.
Immaculate Conception School orders the scrip from the Great Lakes Scrip Center
and local retailers and restaurants at a discount, and re-sells the certificates
to families like yours for full face value. The discount is from two to fifteen
percent or more and that is our school’s revenue. Why Scrip
fundraisers? The reason for the
effectiveness of scrip is simple: families generate revenue through purchases
they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be
purchased with scrip. An organization of 150 families easily spends between one
and two million dollars per year on food, clothing and other essentials. If
these families use scrip for these purchases, they can raise as much as $40,000
to $80,000 per year for our organization --without spending an additional penny. Does it cost a family anything to participate? There are no
membership fees or application fees. The beauty of the scrip concept lies in the
fact that you raise money for our school by using your existing household
shopping budget. Some families may enlist relatives, friends and neighbors to
buy scrip. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to
"sell" anything to raise money for our school. Can I use the scrip certificates anywhere? Yes, the
certificates are accepted at all participating retailer locations. Some
restrictions may apply. What
retailers are participating in this program? A list of retailers, local and national,
is available on the school website and at the school office. Local businesses
are welcome to contact the Scrip Coordinators to join the program. Where will my contribution be applied? Immaculate
Conception School families are required to generate $150 ($75 preschool) in
revenue from their purchases. Families who generate over $150 in revenue may
request half of the amount over $150 to go toward tuition reduction for the next
school year. An Immaculate
Conception Church Parishioner may register to have the revenue generated from
their purchases credited to a specific family, the school, or REP. This is a
great way for parishioners to help school families and school fundraising! When will my contribution be applied? The reporting
period will run from June 1st through May 31st of the
following year. Your contribution will be applied for tuition reduction for the
next school year. How does this work? The discount
percentage offered to us by the retailers is the revenue portion of the
transaction. For example, you purchase $100 worth of Comet Scrip for $100 (face
value) and Comet gives our organization a 2% discount so the revenue generated
from this transaction would be $2. The $2 profit is applied to your choice of a
specific school family, the school, or REP. Where will
Scrip be available to purchase? Points of sale may
be the church office, masses, school office, or by correspondence to these
locations. During the school year, purchases may be made in the school
cafeteria on the first school day of the week from approximately 8:00 – 8:45
am. Large quantities of certificates and certificates not kept in stock may be
ordered. Where do I
get order forms? Order forms are
available at the school office, church office, in the Scrip box, and on the
school website at
http://school.icchurch-school.com/scrip.php. To see an updated list of
retailer gift certificates available through Great Lakes Scrip, please go to
www.glscrip.com. Completed order
forms are due to the school office by 10:00 am on Monday to be processed that
week. Late orders will be held until over to the next week. Orders are
processed every Monday and will usually be available by Friday even during the
summer. On Monday holidays, the processing will be done on Tuesday. Exceptions
may apply at certain times of the year. How do get
my ordered Scrip? On the back of the
Scrip order form, indicate how the filled Scrip order is to be picked up or
delivered. If a school student is designated to bring a filled Scrip order
home, the Scrip envelope will be given to them to place in their backpack. How do I
pay for my Scrip? Cash and checks
are the only accepted form of payment for SCRIP purchases with the payment made
at the time the order is placed. Checks must be made payable to “Immaculate
Conception PTO” or “I.C. PTO”. Is my
Scrip revenue tax deductible? If you choose to donate your Scrip revenue
to the school or REP, then your donated amount is tax deductible. If you use
your revenue for a tuition credit, that portion is not tax deductible. How do I
receive information about the program? Information will
be available at PTO meetings, go out in the backpack messenger, and appear in
some church bulletins or contact the school or church office. Who do I
call with questions? Rose Weaver and
Mary Buchanan, SCRIP coordinators, may be reached by leaving a message at the
school or church office at 226-8433 ext. 105. |
